Shia’s Injury Puts Transformers 2 on One Month Hiatus

Remember when Michael Bay issued a statement claiming that Shia LaBeouf’s hand injury would not delay the production of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen? Well he was wrong.

TFW2005 is reporting that the first unit production crew has been put on a four week hiatus. The second unit team will continue on without Shia. For those who don’t know, second unit usually shoots establishing shots, close-ups of objects, cut-aways, basically anything that usually doesn’t require one of the lead actors prominently on screen. Sometimes it is part of an action sequence. Other times it’s just a close-up of a hand opening a door.

Point is, the main photography of Transformers 2 has shut down. Luckily, the film isn’t due out until June 26th of next year, so the loss of a month probably won’t effect the film’s release.

Star Trek Screened; Trailer Cut But Awaiting FX

The first cut of JJ Abrams‘ Star Trek has screened to studio boss Brad Grey and executives on the Paramount lot. One source tells TrekMovie that the cut was “very impressive”, while another said that the reaction in the screening room was “far beyond expectations”. We’re still nine months away from release, and only a few of the 1300+ effects shots are remotely finished.

Apparently a theatrical trailer is already cut and edited, but the effects in the trailer have to be completed before it can be attached to a movie. Some people are buzzing that the studio hopes to release the trailer on September 26th with DJ Caruso’s Eagle Eye (Star Trek writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci produced the film). But we’ve already heard that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is eyeing that release. So who knows.

More Gatchaman Concept Art

Last week Imagi brought us a batch of concept art for their upcoming computer animated big screen adaptation of Gatchaman. These new photos give us a better look at some of the characters. I love the subdued lighting. I really think Imagi could be making something really incredible with this one. Click on the images to enlarge.

Set in a future world grappling with enviormental and technological issues, the story focuses on five reluctant heroes whose remarkable genetic code makes them Earth’s only hope of defeating extra-terrestrial invaders. Gatchaman was created in the 1970’s, airing as a Japanese television show called Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. It later aired in the U.S. as Battle of the Planets and G-Force. Scripted by Paul Dini (Lost, Batman: The Animated Series, Tiny Toon Adventures), the feature will focus on the formation of the Science Ninja Team and will have a slightly dark possibly PG-13 tone. Gatchaman is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3rd 2009.

Thinkway Toys manufactures this really cool interactive motion activated Pixar Aniamtion Studios desk accessory toy. Luxo Jr comes to life and hops around just like in the opening animation on Pixar’s movies. It has motion activated or remote control settings, in addition to the button on the accessory itself. I’m not sure where exactly this thing is sold. May-be at the new Pixar Studios in Disney’s Hollywood Studios? May-be the Disney Store? I can tell you that I bought mine for $40 at the Pixar store inside Pixar’s Emmeryville Campus, but that, of course, isn’t open to the public. Iron Man DVD Details Revealed

Paramount has just announced the details for the September 30th DVD/Blu-ray release of Iron Man. The film will be released in a single disc, 2-Disc Ultimate Edition and Blu-Ray Ultimate Edition. Since no one reading this cares about the stupid standard one disc release, let me tell you about the Ultimate Edition and Blu-Ray Disc releases.

3D Star Wars, Wait You Must. Yes, mmmm3D Star Wars, Wait You Must. Yes, mmmm.

It looks like we’ll have to wait a few more years for 3D converted release of the Star Wars films. George Lucas told AP that LucasFilm is working on the technology to make it happen.

“We’re trying to do that,” Lucas said. “We worked on some, with a company that was developing the technology a few years ago to convert films into 3-D, we worked with them. But the system works great. It’s just not very practical. So what we’ve been working on since then is to develop a sort of practical way to do it. And we will get there. It’s just a technological challenge.”

In our recent interview with Dreamworks Animation head Jeffrey Katzenberg, he admitted that he wasn’t yet happy with the results, something that probably drove Lucas to taking the R&D in house

“The technology of retro-fitting a black & white movie to color has not gotten to a place where I would feel comfortable doing that and representing that as a quality experience,” Katzenberg admitted. “The tools are still being created and perfected for 2D translation to 3D and it’s too early to say it. Up until now I have not been that excited about the quality of it. But the guys across the street are doing it on Toy Story 1 and 2 which are crown jewels and they’re quality guys. And I know they’ve been working hard on these so that’s where they put a lot of focus on it so, you know, I suspect they’ve made some progress there that will actually allow us to put a quality….George Lucas is looking to take the whole “Star Wars” 6 episodes and to repurpose them into 3D. He’s very excited about it. He’s got the technical resources and he’s not going to put product out that’s anything other than I think first rate.”

Fotomodelul nu s-a ascuns de paparazzi si a renuntat la sutien pentru a se bronza uniform si fara dungi.
Desi a implinit 42 de ani si a nascut de doua ori, top-modelul Cindy Crawford se poate lauda cu o forma fizica de invidiat, care le-ar putea face pe mai tinerele ei colege de podium sa isi roada unghiile de ciuda. Aflata in vacanta in Sardinia, in compania sotului ei, Rande Gerber, in varsta de 47 de ani, dar si a bunului lor prieten, George Clooney, Cindy si-a petrecut cea mai mare parte a timpului bronzandu-se pe puntea iahtului "Silver" al lui Clooney sau practicand sporturi nautice. La un moment dat, insa, Crawford a decis sa renunte la sutien pentru a se alege cu un bronz uniform si fara dungi. First Look: The Road

Dimension Films has released new production photos for John Hillcoat’s upcoming adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s best-selling, Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Road in USA Today.

Academy Award nominee Viggo Mortensen, Academy Award winners Robert Duvall and Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce and 12-year-old Kodi Smit McPhee star in the the story of a man (Mortensen) and his young son (Smit-McPhee) traveling through a desperate, post-apocalyptic world. The flap jacket on the book describes the setting as “burned America”.

“Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind. It is cold enough to crack stones, and when the snow falls it is gray. The sky is dark. Their destination is the coast, although they don’t know what, if anything, awaits them there. They have nothing; just a pistol to defend themselves against the lawless bands that stalk the road, the clothes they are wearing, a cart of scavenged food—and each other.”

And where do you find this post-apocalyptic burned America? In Pittsburgh of course. Hillcoat didn’t want to go the CGI route, and instead found abandoned coal fields, a deserted amusement park and an 8-mile stretch of closed freeway (some of which is seen above) in and around Pittsburgh. The photos look fanatically bleak.

The Road is scheduled to hit theaters in New York and Los Angeles in mid November and expand on November 26th 2008.

Cool Stuff: Fan Built Tumbler Working Replica

Bob Dullam built a full size working replica of The Tumbler from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. The whole thing was built from scratch without blueprints, using only photo references found online. The total cost is an estimated $50,000-$70,000. He did the project for fun, and does not plan to sell. “You wouldn’t want to sell this if you had one, believe me,” Bob writes

“It’s a once in a lifetime project. I did this alone, no help. I have found with other things in the past that if you have help, the help often does not get it right, and you have to do it over 95% of the time, plus I like to work alone. All parts are scratch built, cept’ tires, rims, brakes, engine, etc.. meaning all bodyparts, brackets, just about everything external on the car.”

There is still more work to do. The interior is not finished, but Bob promises that it will look as close to the interior shots from Batman Begins as possible.

“It feels like climbing Mt. Everest half way up, you start to wounder if this wasn’t a big mistake. Then you realize that you are too far to quit. In fact, quitting is now not an option. Because if you do quit, you will have set a precedence about yourself, and all up to this point will become a huge disaster. You get a little farther, now you look down and view is breathtaking. So on an emotional level this car is giving back to you, what you gave to it. It makes you start to think that, If you can do this, then you can make anything happen if you really want to. It revitalizes faith in yourself. This is not supposed to be possible. Not at this social/economic level.”

Up next, Bob wants to build a Batpod. From what I understand, the bike from the movie was actually impracticably engineered, and only one guy in the world was able to ride it. Hopefully Bob decides to modify the original designs a bit for usability. And yes, he’s already begun work on a Batsuit. So if you see a vigilante dressed as Batman riding the tumbler on the nightly news, we know it’s just Bob.

Mutt Williams and the Search for Elvis?

Back in May, George Lucas excitedly told Fox News that he had an idea to make a new Indiana Jones movie without Harrison Ford.

“I haven’t even told Steven or Harrison this,” Lucas said. “But I have an idea to make Shia [LeBeouf] the lead character next time and have Harrison [Ford] come back like Sean Connery did in the last movie. I can see it working out.”

Lucas sat down with the AP earlier this week and assured them if there were to be a fifth Indy film, stating that there is the possibility of such, it would star Harrison Ford. But he said that a Mutt Williams spin-off film is also possible, but it wouldn’t be an Indiana Jones film.

“If Indiana Jones wasn’t in it, you’d have to call it ‘Mutt Williams and the search for Elvis.’ … “Yeah, it’s ‘Mutt Williams and the Search for Elvis.’”

With George, you never know if he’s joking or not. Could his idea really have been Mutt Williams and the search for Elvis? Would anyone really pay to see such a movie? Apparently Lucas gave out the same title to MTV during their interview as well. So either he thinks its funny or is testing the waters. Please say it was a joke.

Un studiu destul de interesant a fost efectuat in aceste zile in care ni se arata la ce pret foarte scazut au ajuns calculatoarele complet echipate in ziua de astazi ( inclusiv cu licenta).

O simpla privire pe site-urile care comercializeaza calculatoare este suficienta pentru a observa ca de exemplu un laptop HP de 14,1 inci, procesor de 2GHz, memorie de 4GB si hard-disk de 320GB costa in medie 699 de dolari…

Cel mai interesant aspect vine insa abia cand comparam preturile intre calculatoare obisnuite si cele produse de Apple, unde vom observa diferente de la simplu la dublu si culmea, o crestere de pret in ultimii doi ani pentru acestia din urma…de la 1432 de dolari pentru un desktop si 1574 pentru un laptop in anul 2006 acum costa 1543 respectiv 1515 de dolari americani, in timp ce in acelasi timp un laptop clasic a coborat de la 877 la 700 de dolari, iar PC-ul de la 559 la 550.
Nu in ultimul rand se raporteaza din piata intarirea vanzarilor de Windows Vista 64 Bit, pentru ca pe 32 de biti nu se vad mai mult de 3Gb de memorie RAM ( si Vista sigur ar vrea si mai mult).

AMD lanseaza oficial chipsetul 790GX

Compania AMD vrea sa profite se pare de pasa proasta in care este Nvidia si tocmai a lansat un nou chipset, care promite performante ( inclusiv overclocking) de neegalat pana acum.

Noul chipset poarta denumirea de 790GX si este construit cu gandul la noile procesoare Phenom, drept pentru care ele implementeaza cateva noi tehnologii care ajuta la overclocking si tehnologia denumita “Advanced Clock Calibration Technology” ce ajuta la cresterea performantelor atunci cand se foloseste un procesor Phenom Black Edition.

In plus, noul chipset va avea cea mai performanta placa grafica integrata in acest moment, denumita Radeon HD 3300 si placa de baza cu acest chipset va avea suport pentru Hybrid CrossfireX si CrossfireX.
Oricum de data aceasta se pare ca avem de-a face cu un chipset foarte bun din partea celor de la AMD, si informatia care ne spune ca un Phenom de 2,5GHz va putea fi overclockat fara efort peste 3,2 GHz nu face decat sa ne confirme impresiile.

Warner Bros has released a new Watchmen video journal on Yahoo. Director Zack Snyder takes us through the making of the Owlship. We got a chance to get up close and personal with the Owlship at Comic Con, and I must admit, it’s incredibly cool.

O hotarare CSAT, tinuta la secret, permite SIE sa detina echipamente pentru ascultatul telefoanelor si interceptarea comunicatiilor prin satelit * In Romania, singura autoritate nationala in domeniul interceptarilor este Serviciul Roman de Informatii * Toate serviciile secrete din Romania folosesc dispozitive pentru spionarea proriilor cetateni

Schema de funtionare a sistemului Sigint Chiar daca, oficial, singura autoritate nationala in domeniul interceptarilor a fost desemnat Serviciul Roman de Informatii (SRI) am descoperit ca statul roman, printr-o hotarare strict secreta, a autorizat Serviciul de Informatii Externe (SIE) sa isi procure si sa foloseasca cele mai sofisticate echipamente pentru ascultarea telefoanelor romanilor si a tuturor comunicatiilor prin internet. Pe data de 15 aprilie 2004, Consiliul Suprem de Aparare a Tarii adopta Hotararea 0063, clasificata STRICT SECRET, prin care autoriza Serviciul de Informatii Externe sa desfasoare activitati de tip SIGINT pentru interceptarea comunicatiilor efectuate prin satelit. Din acel moment, SIE a dispus de baza legala pentru a-si procura cele mai performante dispozitive necesare interceptarilor de voce si date transmise prin mijloace electromagnetice (telefoane, calculatoare sau orice alt tip de radioemitator). Interceptarile SIE la secret Am solicitat Serviciului de Informatii Externe sa ne comunice cate interceptari a efectuat pana la ora actuala dupa ce CSAT i-a permis sa faca acest lucru si daca a avut mandat de la judecator pentru efectuarea acestor operatiuni. Intr-un raspuns laconic primit din partea SIE ni s-a comunicat faptul ca, "informatiile din domeniul apararii nationale, sigurantei si ordinii publice, daca fac parte din categoriile informatiilor clasificate, potrivit legii", se excepteaza de la accesul liber al cetatenilor. Reprezentantii SIE ne-au mai spus ca hotararea CSAT prin care SIE poate face interceptari "este clasificata STRICT SECRET (aspect indicat atat de numarul hotararii - 0063 - cat si de mentionarea explicita a caracterului documentului) si vizeaza aspecte de siguranta nationala". Gheorghe Fulga, fos­tul director al SIE la momentul adoptarii respectivei hotarari CSAT, ne-a declarat ca nu isi mai aduce aminte despre acest lucru si ne-a sugerat sa contactam actuala conducere a SIE. Conspiratia serviciilor In privinta interceptarilor co­municatiilor, SIE se ascunde in spatele unor legi care ii permit sa asculte pe oricine si oricand, chiar si fara mandat. In raspunsul primit de la SIE se mentioneaza faptul ca, "in privinta interceptarilor comunicatiilor, reiteram faptul ca in toate situatiile aflate sub in­cidenta legislatiei nationale (teritoriul Romaniei, cetateni romani) Serviciul de Informatii Ex­terne respecta cu strictete cadrul legal care reglementeaza aceasta masura (Legea nr. 51/1991, Codul de Procedura Penala, Legea nr. 535/2004)." Nu avem cunostinta ca pana la ora actuala membrii comisiei parlamentare de control a SIE sa fi fost informati despre numarul interceptarilor si modul cum au fost valorificate informatiile obtinute in acest fel. Presedintele Comisiei parlamentare de control a SIE nu a putut fi contactat. Singura data cand in Parlament s-a vorbit despre legalitatea si modul cum face SIE interceptari s-a soldat cu demisia directorului SIE (Claudiu Saftoiu-n.r.), pe care l-a luat gura pe dinainte si a re­cunoscut ca SIE face interceptari in lipsa unui mandat de la judecator. Potrivit Codului de procedura penala, interceptarile se pot efectua cu autorizarea judecatorului, daca sunt indicii temeinice privind pregatirea sau savarsirea unei infractiuni pentru care urmarirea penala se efectueaza din oficiu, iar interceptarea si inregistrarea se impun pentru stabilirea situatiei de fapt sau identificarea faptuitorului. Autorizarea se da pentru cel mult 30 de zile. Ea poate fi prelungita, inainte de expirare, pentru motive temeinic justificate, fiecare prelungire neputand depasi 30 de zile. In con­ditii exceptionale se poate as­culta un telefon si fara mandat de la judecator, dar numai pentru maxim 48 de ore, in acest interval fiind obligatorie obtinerea man­datului. Culmea este ca romanilor carora le-au fost ascultate telefoanele de catre serviciile secrete si nu s-au descoperit ilegalitati, nu sunt anuntati despre acest lucru, asa cum se procedeaza in alte state democratice. In aceste conditii, se poate spune ca SIE este un concurent serios al Serviciului Roman de Informatii in privinta trasului cu urechea. Dar el nu este singur. In mass-media au aparut de mai multe ori informatii potrivit carora si alte institutii (MIRA, DNA, STS, MAp etc.) detin echipamente pentru monitorizarea si interceptarea comunicatiilor, dar nu la fel de performante ca cele ale SRI si SIE. SRI si-a tras MONSAT Un concurent serios al SIE in privinta interceptarilor comu­nicatiilor prin satelit este SRI, care dispune si el de cea mai inalta tehnologie necesara interceptarilor de orice fel. Tot printr-o serie de hotarari strict secrete, CSAT aproba realizarea sistemului de Monitorizare a Comunicatiilor prin Satelit-MONSAT. Daca in prima faza acest sistem trebuia sa fie administrat de Directia Generala de Informatii a Apararii din MAp, pana la urma a ajuns in ograda SRI-ului. Purtatorul de cuvant al Ministerului Apararii a negat categoric faptul ca sistemul MONSAT s-ar afla la MAp. Din datele obtinute de ziarul Ziua, achizitionarea si instalarea echipamentelor speciale pentru reteaua MONSAT s-a facut si cu sprijinul National Security Agency (NSA). Actul de nastere al sistemului MONSAT este Hotararea 045/2005 a CSAT. In ciuda insistentelor noastre, re­prezentantii SRI au refuzat sa confirme oficial faptul ca sunt operatorii sistemului MONSAT, incercand sa ne induca ideea ca este vorba despre o problema tehnica deosebit de complexa pe care nici purtatorul de cuvant al SRI nu a inteles-o si din acest motiv nu a putut sa ne dea mai multe detalii. Noi nu solicitasem detalii tehnice despre MONSAT, ci doar ca SRI sa ne confirme sau nu faptul ca foloseste acest sistem de interceptari. In cursul anului 2006, CSAT a adoptat o alta hotarare strict secreta privind instalarea pe teritoriul Romaniei a unor echipamente SIGINT apartinand Serviciului de Informatii si Securitate a Apararii din Olanda. Centru secret in buricul Capitalei Cele doua sisteme de inter­ceptare a comunicatiilor prin satelit, operate de SIE si SRI, lasa loc de speculatii si, in acelasi timp, pot fi utilizate si in scopuri ilicite. Informatiile captate de specialistii romani pot ajunge pe mana unor persoane care au posibilitatea sa se foloseasca de ele in afara cadrului legal. Spre exemplu, un asemenea sistem permite, pe langa ascultarea tele­foanelor, interceptarea postei elec­tronice, deseori utilizata de oameni de afaceri sau politicieni. In aceste conditii, continutul unui e-mail, privind o afacere sau un aranjament politic, poate deveni un instrument pentru santajarea celor implicati sau poate ajunge pe mana concurentei in cazul unor comunicatii dintre companii sau oameni de afaceri. Ziarul Ziua a aflat ca, in momentul de fata, Comunitatea Nationala de Informatii din cadrul Administratiei Prezidentiale are acces la un Sistem Informatic Integrat, racordat la toate serviciile secrete si unde sunt stocate informatiile secrete de importanta strategica, inclusiv cele obtinute in urma interceptarilor legale sau ilegale pe care le fac serviciile de informatii. Aceasta baza de date este permanent actualizata, iar serverele unde sunt stocate datele sunt intr-un Centru de Ma­nagement al Sistemului Infor­matic Integrat stabilit printr-un document secret (Hotararea 0216/27.10.2004 emisa de CSAT-n.r.) in doua locatii: una principala, aflata in Bucuresti, si alta de rezerva. Potrivit unor informatii neoficiale, acest Centru de Ma­nagement al Sistemului In­formatic Integrat este administrat de Serviciul Roman de Informatii. Aceasta baza de date in format electronic aflata in serverele Centrului de Management al Sistemului Informatic Integrat le permite serviciilor secrete din Romania sa obtina in timp real orice informatie despre o persoana fizica sau juridica in functie de interese. Functionarea Centrului de Management al Sistemului Informatic a fost reglementata prin Hotararea de Guvern nr. 952 din 14/08/2003, contrasemnata de directorul SRI. Accesul operatorilor la date este dat in functie de certificatul de securitate (eliberat de Oficiul Registrului National al Informatiilor Secrete de Stat), detinut de cel care vrea sa acceseze sistemul. Informatiile SIGINT t SIGINT - SIGnal INTelli­gence sunt informatii obtinute din surse care actioneaza in spectrul electromagnetic si constau din mai multe sub­domenii: t COMINT (COMmuni­cation INTelligence) - informatii obtinute prin interceptarea comunicatiilor si a transmisiilor de date. COMINT implica inter­ceptarea si procesarea comu­nicatiilor externe transmise prin radio sau alte mijloace electro­magnetice si procesarea comu­nicatiilor criptate, indiferent de modul de transmitere. In­tercep­tarea presupune cer­cetare, cap­turare, identificarea opera­torului, analiza semnalelor, analiza de trafic, analiza crip­tografica, decriptare, studiu de text, fu­zionarea acestor procese si inaintarea rezultatelor. t ELINT (ELectronic INTelli­gence) sunt informatii obtinute prin intermediul transmisiilor electromagnetice care nu apartin comunicatiilor si RADINT - informatii obtinute cu ajutorul radarelor. ELINT pre­supune culegerea (observarea si inre­gistrarea) si procesarea in scop informativ a informatiilor obtinute din surse nonverbale, prin radiatii electromagnetice emanand din alte surse atomice decat cele radioactive sau de detonare. t TELINT (TELemetric INTe­lligence) sunt informatii obtinute prin telemetrie.

Grand Theft Auto IV este fără nici o îndoială cel mai bun din serie şi unul din cele mai de succes jocuri de pe Playstation 3 şi Xbox 360. Rockstar a confirmat, miercuri, că GTA IV va apărea şi pe PC.

Nico Belic este un est european ce încearcă să îşi facă loc printre gangsterii din Liberty City (un simulacru murdar al New York-ului). GTA IV beneficiază de o grafică mult îmbunătăţită şi o tehnologie care îşi face loc din ce în ce mai des în jocurile de astăzi: Endorphin. Aceasta ajută personajul principal să îşi păstreze o naturaleţe a mişcărilor şi să reacţioneze cât se poate de real în diverse situaţii, cum ar fi accidentele de maşină sau să şchiopăteze ocazional din cauza unei vechi răni de război.

Rockstar a confirmat, miercuri, că jocul se va lansa pe PC pe 21 noiembrie şi, prin vocea lui Sam Houser, fondator Rockstar, ne-a asigurat că "jocul arată extraordinar şi se comportă perfect pe PC".

Mp3 playerele pot citi doar fisiere audio (MP3, WMA si WAV), au integrate tunere FM si pot fi folosite ca reportofoane datorita microfoanelor incorporate.

Preturile recomandate sunt de 110$ / 70 eur pentru 1Gb, 130$ / 80 eur pentru 2Gb si 150$ / 95 eur pentru 4Gb.

Dimensiunile vor fi 40.7 x 80.2 x 11.1 mm si vor avea o greutate de 30g.

Panasonic laseaza un nou Blu-Ray Recorder pentru PC

Panasonic va lansa in data de 13 Septembrie o noua unitate Blu-Ray SATA. Aceasta va avea o viteza de scriere de 8x si o memorie buffer de 8Mb.

Unitatea aceasta este capabila sa scrie atat discuri Blu-Ray cat si DVDRAM (5x), DVD-R (16x), DVD-R DL (8x), DVD-RW (6x), CD-R (48x) si CDRW (24x)

Pretul estimat de comercializare va fi in jur de 250 de eur.

The Informers Movie Trailer

If a trailer begins with New Order’s “Blue Monday” and a soundbite from Ronald Regan praising religion followed by shots of cocaine and humping, it’s a safe bet that author Bret Easton Ellis was involved. The Informers is the latest adaptation in Ellis’s bibliography (American Psycho, Less Than Zero, The Rules of Attraction) and he also co-wrote its screenplay.

Set in Los Angeles during the early ’80s, the movie examines a cornocopia of effed-up, unhappy lives, as played by Kim Basinger, Billy Bob Thorton, Winona Ryder, Mickey Rourke, Chris Isaak, and the late Brad Renfro. The book’s supernatural elements were apparently scrapped, but director Gregor Jordan (Ned Kelly) seems to have laid on the period-appropriate gloom, doom and glam. Some will say it looks edgy, others “edgy,” and the rest will say, “I hate the ’80s.” The film opens later this year.

Tarantino Casts Britney Spears in Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill! Remake?!

Last night it was announced that Eli Roth was cast in the World War II film Inglorious Basterds, and now the Telegraph reports that Britney Spears will play a killer lesbian stripper Varla in Tarantino’s remake of the 1965 cult film Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!

Now I understand Tarantino made a name for himself by casting against traditional standards, sometimes casting the forgotten Hollywood wash-up. Now it looks like he has set his sights outside the realm of acting, toward the music industry. The film tells the story of three thrill-seeking strippers. Spear’s character murders one member of a couple with her bare hands, and later has sex with another girl. The other two stripper leads have not yet been cast. Maybe Tarantino will sign Amy Winehouse… because, why not?

ROGUE
At first glance, Rogue would appear to be nothing more than a Sci-Fi Channel-quality B-movie about a killer crocodile (where have we seen that plotline used before?), which is probably why the film was shafted so badly when it came time for a U.S. release. But according to the critics and audiences that have seen it, this schlocky horror flick from the writer/director of Wolf Creek is a surprisingly competent excursion in suspense, complete with top-notch special effects, great cinematography, and acting/dialogue that doesn’t make you embarrassed for the actors.

STARSHIP TROOPERS 3: MARAUDER
Serving strictly as an answer to the question, “Just what the hell happened to Casper Van Dien’s career?” Starship Troopers 3 is the second utterly worthless straight-to-DVD sequel to Paul Verhoeven’s hilarious and action-packed original. This one doesn’t hit the lows that the first sequel did, but the satire elements, acting, dialogue, and most of all the CGI are so piss-poor, there’s really no reason to even bother with it.
