Fan Created Dark Knight Sequel Movie Poster

/Film readers Max B and David B have sent over this fan made poster for a possible sequel to The Dark Knight. Seems like the artist, like most everyone I have talked to, wants The Riddler to attack Gotham City in the next film. But yes, it is just a fan creation (If the question mark didn’t give it away). But the rest of the poster is well done. I doubt they would use the title The Dark Knight Returns unless it was an adaptation of the Frank Miller graphic novel. I have heard that the next film might employ the cape crusader’s on screen nickname “The Batman” in the title. “The Return of The Batman” anyone? Click on the image below to enlarge.

Engine-ul din Warhead a fost mult mai bine optimizat, au declarat reprezentantii Crytek.

Povestea din Crysis Warhead arata o alta latura a evenimentelor din primul joc al seriei. Jucatorul va intra in pielea lui "Psycho" Sikes si va avea la dispozitie noi vehicule si arme, dar si un mod multiplayer imbunatatit. Producatorii au promis ca vor fi disponibile 21 de harti pentru modul multiplayer.
Jocul va costa aproximativ 30 de Euro.

Madagascar 3 and Kung Fu Panda 2

DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg says that the computer animation studio is in talks for a Kung Fu Panda sequel, and plans to have at least one more Madagascar film, if not more. Katzenberg told reporters on Wednesday that they are currently having conversations about a possible Kung Fu Panda 2, and to expect an announcement in the next 30 to 60 days.

Panda was one of the last DreamWorks Animated films that will be released in 2D, but the studio did some 3D tests with sequences from the film in preparation of the company’s three dimensional future. Katzenberg told /Film a couple weeks back that directors John Stevenson and Mark Osbourne were so impressed with the tests, that they had very early discussions about the possibility of re-releasing the film in 3D. But who knows if that would still be a possibility with the release of a 3D sequel.

Katzenberg also said that Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa will probably spawn a sequel: “There is at least one more chapter. We ultimately want to see the characters make it back to New York.” But does anyone really care about a third Madagascar film? While I certainly understand the New York return story being a neat third act of the series, I’d much rather see a spin-off following the adventures of the penguins.

Minutes after the panel for the green screen opus,The Spirit, was over at Comic Con, the Internet exploded like so many snarky bottle rockets, sending up enlightened texts like, “The Spirit, LOL, looks like Sin Shitty” and the trusty “EPIC FAIL!” The view enjoyed that lovely day from Twitter was akin to sipping a Corona inside the Green Zone. Well, the Con footage has now popped (pooped?) up on YouTube. I might as well let the Slashfilmbot take over from here. Samuel L. Jackson caps off the clip by declaring, “C’mon! Toilets are always funny.” Polite fanboy laughter only adds to the cringe factor, like a really bad SNL skit.

Totoro Forest Project

An exhibition/auction is being held to support the non-profit organization, “Totoro No Furusato National Fund”, which was established by Oscar winning filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki.The benefit auction, which will be held at the Pixar Animation Studios campus in Emeryville, CA on September 6th 2008, will feature more than 200 pieces of original art from some really incredible arts from the worlds of Animation comic books, illustration and the fine arts. The art from the show will be published in a book which will also be available on September 6th. You can check out some of the art now on totoroforestproject.org. Tickets to the event start at $100, 40% of which is tax deductible.

The above piece is by Pete Docter, director of Monsters Inc and Up. The piece below is by Peter Sohn, a Pixar animator who provided the voice of Emile in Ratatouille.

“Anime is one of the most influential forms of contemporary art today. Among Japanese masters of animation, Hayao Miyazaki is undoubtedly the most popular and respected. The storytelling, visual approach and philosophical depth of his films have made a massive impact in the world of filmmaking Today. Many prominent animation and illustration artists in the world proudly recognize Miyazaki’s strong influence and inspiration on their own work.This project gives the opportunity to the artists involved to voice their appreciation for master filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki and the inspiration he has given them through the years.“

The above piece is by Paul Topolos, a concept artist known for his work in Ratatouille, The Incredibles, Star Wars: Episode II, and a bunch of the Star Wars video games of the late 1990’s. Below is an acrylic and paper collage by Pixar production artist Nate Wragg (remember the end title sequence on Ratatouille? That was Wragg).

“Hayao Miyazaki has been actively pursuing the preservation of Sayama Forest for more than ten years. This 8750 acre park in the outskirts of Tokyo is also known as Totoro Forest. It’s in these woods in fact that the concept for the film “My Neighbor Totoro” was born. In the past few decades, the forest has been subject to urban development. Only continued support to the Totoro Trust Fund can help preserve this much needed island of green in the midst of Tokyo’s urban sprawl. We intend to donate the entire proceeds of the project to this worthy cause. This event can also be a symbolic gesture, sending a strong message to the world in terms of environmental and social awareness. Imagine artists from all over the world coming together to donate artwork to help conserve a forest they have never seen.”

Billy Bob Thornton Up For Freddy Krueger?

Breaking, Halle Berry just fainted. According to a tipster at JoBlo, when Robert Englund appeared on Loveline four days ago he mentioned that Billy Bob Thornton is being considered for Freddy Krueger in the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Did any of our readers tune in to hear what was specifically said (about the casting, not candle light stamina)? Thornton is no stranger to playing small town outcasts in long sleeve apparel who commit murder. He won an Oscar, and ten million bad impressions by Southerners, for 1996’s Sling Blade.

Englund previously stated that he’s cool with both the remake and passing the claw to a new actor. During Comic-Con, Platinum Dunes producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form were enthusiastic yet cautious about the project, which remains in the early stages and is currently being written by Wesley Strick (Cape Fear, Doom). They emphasized a fresh focus on the psychology of Krueger and elaborate CGI nightmare-scapes not seen in Wes Craven’s low budget, still freaky original co-starring Johnny Depp. Here’s what Fuller told MoviesOnline…

“If we’re lucky enough to get that movie, I suspect because of what we try and do with all our horror movies is really keep it real. I don’t know that, if we’re lucky enough to do that, it’s always weird to speculate on that but I can’t imagine Freddy’s going to be throwing out one-liners the whole way through.”

The buzz on PD’s Friday the 13th revamp tooka slight dip with fans last month though the trailer was met with generally favorable reviews. Unlike that popcorn film, nothing I’ve heard really jazzes me about this inevitable ANOES remake. When Freddy’s grossly scalded head once again rises out of the bathwater between a nubile girl’s legs, I guess Billy Bob would be a fine choice.

Update: FirstShowing report that Englund also mentioned this casting rumor on a separate radio interview.

THE WIRE (SEASON 5)
Hands down, The Wire is my all-time favorite television series in existence. It’s a show that operates on a level untouched by current cinema, telling an incredibly authentic ongoing story about crime in Baltimore where every plot element is essential and every episode of every season has been mapped out beforehand. Each season brings something completely new to the table, amounting to a series that’s constantly evolving. If you haven’t started watching yet, I deeply encourage you to do so, as all five seasons are now available on DVD. Season 5 contains 10 full hour-long episodes.

Notable Extras: 6 audio commentaries, a documentary that explores the role of the media, and a retrospective look at the first 4 seasons.

PRISON BREAK (SEASON 3)
I actually have not seen an episode of Prison Break in my life, so I’m not even sure if this show is popular anymore. If so and you watch it, can somebody please explain to me: how does a show about a guy breaking another guy out of prison continue its storyline beyond one season? I sure hope the answer doesn’t involve the characters constantly switching roles, hopping in and out of prison for as long as the ratings stay high. That seems like it would get old fast. Anyway, season 3 consists of 13 episodes instead of the originally planned 22 (due to the WGA strike).
Blu-ray? Yes.

Stephen Chow’s follow-up to the hilarious Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer has been getting more much more mixed feedback than either of those films did, but the response has still been more positive than negative. In the film, Stephen Chow plays a poor father who finds a bizarre new toy for his son. Geared toward children, the movie is said to be both charming and sweet, but a little too strange and awkwardly plotted for most kids to be able to handle.
Blu-ray? Yes.

FELON
The instinctive reaction to seeing a DVD with Stephen Dorff’s name on it that hasn’t received a major theatrical release is usually one of terror, but Felon isn’t the straight-to-DVD trash that he normally stars in. The film follows a family man (played by Val Kilmer) who kills an intruder and afterwards finds himself forced to live his life in the violent penal system. It currently holds a 7.9 out of 10 rating on IMDB (out of over 4,000 votes).

SMART PEOPLE
This movie should’ve been titled Obnoxious Self-Absorbed Faux-Intellectual Assholes, but I suppose the marketing people thought that was a little too long. That title isn’t necessarily a negative though, as The Squid & the Whale could’ve been called that and it would continue to remain a much better film than this miserable, unpleasant and utterly dull look at people who just aren’t that interesting to look at. The only bright spot is the smile-inducing performance by Thomas Haden Church, who ironically plays the only central character in the film who isn’t intelligent (or to phrase that more appropriately, “book smart”).
Blu-ray? Yes.

Witches of Eastwick, Hawaii Five-O 2.0, and Seth Green And Breckin Meyer Join Heroes

ABC is developing a small screen adaptation of John Updike’s The Witches of Eastwick. You might remember that George Miller brought the book to the big screen in 1987, with Jack Nicholson, Cher, Susan Sarandon and Michelle Pfeiffer. Warner Bros TV has been trying to bring the franchise to the small screen for almost two decades. The book has also been adapted for the stage. Written by Maggie Friedman (Dawson’s Creek, Jack and Bobby) , the new supernatural tv series will apparently be a variation of the 1987 film. The story will focus on three witches who are seduced by a devil-like character, who teaches them how to further their abilities. The idea of a witch-focused television series just makes me think of Charmed, which I pretty much hated with a passion. I don’t care how hot any of the women on that show are, the show was unwatchable. [variety]

Seth Green and Breckin Meyer are in talks to join the cast of Heroes for multi-episode story arcs. The duo will play play Atlanta-based comic book geeks who advise one of the heroes. How meta. [EW]

CBS has teamed with Criminal Minds executive producer Ed Bernero to develop a new version of Hawaii Five-O. The new series will focus of Chris McGarrett, a Hawaiian cop and son of Steve McGarrett, a character played in the original series by Jack Lord. The show will be updated (as will the clasic opening theme song) but Bernero insists that it won’t be a reinvention.

Behind The Scenes of Coraline

Rotten Tomatoes got their hands on a behind the scenes featurette for Henry Selick’s big screen 3D adaptation of Coraline.

Based on Neil Gaiman’s short children’s novel of the same name, Coraline is a young bored girl who discovers that bricked-up wall behind a door in her house leads to another dimension, where she has a different mother, and different father. A stop-motion film produced in stereoscopic 3-D from director Henry Selick, the guy behind The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach and Monkeybone.

Vesti foarte bune de la AMD, vom avea HD4850X2 si 4870X2

In eterna lupta dintre ei si Nvidia, ATI se pregateste sa scoata niste placi video ce promit performante foarte mari.
La fel ca la generatia trecuta se pare ca ATI-AMD au reusit sa gaseasca o solutie ieftina pentru a integra doua chipuri video pe aceeasi placa, si acum a venit randul ultimului chip grafic anuntat de ei ( seria 4xxx) sa primeasca o versiune cu doua nuclee.

Cele doua versiuni 4850X2 si 4870X2 sunt adresate segmentului “super high-end” si vor avea preturi pe masura din pacate, 399 de dolari pentru 4850X2 si 599 de dolari pentru 4870X2, ambele modele cu pana la 2GB de memorie RAM.
Date preliminare spun ca cele doua vor bate fara probleme un Nvidia GTX 280 si-l vor depasi pe acesta chiar si intr-un sistem dual GTX in anumite aplicatii/jocuri.

Noile placi video vor fi puse in vanzare intr-un termen de mai putin de o luna.

VIA nu va mai produce chipseturi pentru placi de baza

VIA tocmai a facut un anunt in masura sa surprinda ceva lume, a anuntat ca nu va mai produce chipseturi pentru placi de baza adresate standardului x86 ( calculatoare obisnuite ), in principal din cauza faptului ca doreste sa-si concentreze eforturile pe productia de procesoare ( cum este cazul Nano), si pe chipseturi si placi de baza pentru acesta.

Masura luata de ei este oarecum logica, pentru ca celelalte companii care produc asa ceva sunt mult mai puternice, si nu in ultimul rand piata netbookurilor si a laptopurilor are toate premisele unei cresteri frumoase in urmatorii ani.

The Wire - The Entire Series For $134.48

I have a confession: I have yet to get addicted to HBO’s The Wire. I just recently bought the first season box set after /Film’s own Adam Quigley wouldn’t stop raving about the show during last month’s Comic Con. I’ve watched a couple episodes, and am still unsure - I like it but I don’t yet love it. Everyone says its one of the best television series of all time, and sometimes you have to put your trust in the wisdom of the crowds. Heck, I don’t think I would have watched season one of Battlestar if everyone I talked to didn’t assure me that it got much better after the miniseries. Anyways, enough ranting. Point is The Wire is highly loved and acclaimed, but I don’t know many people who watched it as it was being broadcast on HBO. And everyone I know is always looking for a good show to watch on DVD…

Bionic Commando Rearmed gata de lansare

Bionic Commando Rearmed se lanseaza in trei zile in versiunea pentru PC si in doua zile in versiunile pentru Xbox Live Arcade si PlayStation Network. Producatorii jocului, compania Capcom, si-a cerut scuze pentru intarzierea cu care a facut anuntul datei de lansare. Reprezentantii companiei au declarat ca doreau sa fie siguri 100% ca jocul este gata de lansare si ca data nu va fi din nou amanata.

Remake-ul shooter-ului Bionic Commando ar fi trebuit sa ajunga pe rafturile magazinelor in luna mai insa data de lansare a fost amanata pentru luna iulie 2008. se pare insa ca fanii Bionic Commando vor putea sa puna mana pe joc abia pe 13 respectiv 14 august 2008.

Un milion de dolari pe zi pentru Apple, din App Store

Apple a vandut online aplicatii pentru iPhone de un milion de dolari pe zi. Compania a avut, de la deschiderea centrului online de aplicatii software App Store, in luna iulie, venituri de un milion de dolari pe zi, clientii descarcand peste 60 milioane de programe pentru terminalul iPhone, potrivit cotidianului The Wall Street Journal.

Compania americana estimeaza ca veniturile App Store vor ajunge la 500 de milioane de dolari anual, a declarat directorul executiv al Apple, Steve Jobs, pentru Wall Street Journal. "Aceasta afacere va atinge jumatate de miliard in curand si ar putea depasi un miliard de dolari la un moment dat", a spus Jobs.

Apple pastreaza doar 30% din veniturile rezultate, restul revenind programatorilor, a adaugat el. Steve Jobs considera ca aplicatiile disponibile vor contribui la o majorare a vanzarilor de iPhone-uri si iPod-uri.

Terminalele iPhone se conecteaza periodic la un site Apple, care poate, teoretic, sa dezinstaleze un software nedorit. Optiunea este necesara in cazul in care, in urma unei erori, Apple ar permite distributia, prin intermediul App Store, al unei aplicatii care poate afecta programele instalate.

Windows pe 64 de biti incepe sa aiba success

La foarte multa vreme de la lansarea sa pe piata, sistemul ( de fapt acum sistemele de operare pe 64 de biti) incepe sa aiba succesul sperat de producatori.
In cazul de fata vorbim bineinteles de sistemele Windows 64 Bit, care ajutate de procesoare corespunzatoare pot efectua operatiuni matematice mult mai complexe decat sistemele pe 32 de biti.
Initial, dezavantajele plecau de la necesitatea instalarii in sistem a cel putin 2 Gb de memorie RAM ( si acum cativa ani aceasta era o problema din cauza pretului), precum si de la necesitatea rescrierii driverelor ( ce erau compatibile doar cu sistemele pe 32 de biti), insa acum aceste “dezavantaje” sunt inlaturate.

Vestea buna pentru Microsoft ( buna in ghilimele pentru ca 32 si 64 Bit au aceleasi preturi), este ca de curand marii retaileri au inceput sa promoveze aceste sisteme de operare in cele mai dinamice campanii de reclame pe care le au, companii intre care amintim Best Buy si Circuit City, timp in care si mari producatori de sisteme au aderat la curent, cea mai buna exemplificare venind din parte “Gateway”.
Una peste alta se pare ca ceea ce trebuia sa se intample de vreo 2-3 ani se intampla abia acum, dar totusi bine ca se intampla pana la urma.

Samsung si Microsoft colaboreaza pentru eficienta SSD-urilor

Se stie de multa vreme ca SSD-urile nu sunt extraordinar de eficiente atunci cand avem ca sistem de operare Windows Vista, pentru ca Vista are obiceiul sa acceseze tot timpul unitatea de stocare din calculator.

Pentru a elimina aceasta problema Samsung, un jucator foarte activ in ceea ce priveste productia de SSD-uri a inceput o colaborare chiar cu producatorul Vista, Microsoft Corporation.
De pe urma acestei colaborari va profita mai ales Sandisk ( pentru ca foloseste chipuri SSD produse de Samsung), si in cel mai scurt timp sistemul de operare Vista va recunoaste in cazul SSD-urilor o dimensiune a sectorului de 4kb ( fata de 512kb la hard-diskuri), si prin urmare in cel mai scurt timp vom avea un Vista mult mai “fluid” pe SSD-uri.

A jucat table pe bani multi, pazit de bodyguarzi

Mai multi curiosi au chibitat partida cantaretului, silindu-i pe baietii cu muschi care-l pazesc sa fie extrem de vigilenti.
Aflat zilele acestea la mare, la Mamaia, Adrian Minune (zis, mai nou, Adi de Vito) a dovedit ca, desi ii plac sporturile extreme, ramane totusi un impatimit al celui mai popular joc romanesc: tablele. Daca pana acum manelistul s-a ocupat de micutii sai, carora le-a facut mai toate poftele pe litoral, ba a mers chiar cu ski-jetul pentru a-si plimba fiica, de aceasta data Adi a vrut sa se distreze si el. Asa ca a incins pe plaja de la Rex o partida de table, la care, din cauza manifestarilor zgomotoase ale cantaretului in cazul unui zar bun, s-au adunat numerosi chibiti. Si pentru ca pe masa de joc mai multe hartii albastre isi asteptau castigatorul, bodygarzii, care pana atunci se harjoneau intre ei, au lasat joaca si s-au asezat "in dispozitiv". Ca sa nu fie nicio problema, iar Minune sa nu fie agresat in vreun fel de fanii sai, unul dintre ei s-a asezat pe un scaun, chiar la masuta pe care erau insirate tablele. E greu de spus cine si cat a castigat, pentru ca banii se plimbau destul de des intre cei doi jucatori, insa jocul avea oarece miza cata vreme "o linie" era un milion, iar martul doua milioane.
